Happy May, friends! When I started this series, I had intended for it to be weekly. I quickly realized some goals need longer to fulfill, and, is there even any interest in weekly goals? So, for now, we are sticking with goals for the month! If you missed the first goals for the month of April, you can check it out here.
1. Practice Obedience: Read A Devotional Every Morning
This semester is finally nearing the end, and Lysa TerKeurst just released her new devotional, Embraced. I highly recommend Uninvited and Unglued by Lysa, as well. I’m hoping to have a book review of both at some point on the blog, but for now, my focus is on practicing obedience by actually taking the time to sit in the quiet, read Embraced, and prepare myself for the day.
2. Call My Friends
I talked a little bit about this in my 9 Tips For Newlyweds post. I got married this past December, started back to school in January after a year and a half away, and have been learning and settling in to my new routine(s). The semester is winding down, life is less chaotic and unpredictable, and Daniel & I are more settled into our newlywed life. So, it’s time to pick up the phone. I like to text my friends and make sure everything’s okay, but I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and catch up with my best friends. I should probably clarify why I’m calling my friends, and not going to grab lunch with them. Most of my best friends live over 2,000 miles away, so, as much as I’d love to actually get to see them and hug them, facetiming will have to suffice for now.
3. Maintain My Workout Routine
I loathe working out. I definitely went through a time where I really enjoyed it and benefited from actual working out (not to mention, I met one of my best friends through the gym!), but that time has passed. BUT, I do workout in my own way. My neighborhood is full of hills, so, I walk up and down the hills in a quickened pace. Does it work? Absolutely. I did the same routine a few years ago and ended up losing quite a bit of weight, and gained noticeable muscle in my legs. I occasionally get on the spin bike we have set up upstairs. I also love riding my bike around our neighborhood and through the trails behind our house. So, if you hate working out as much as me, just know not all hope is lost! I go for a power walk 5-6 times a week, and bike ride 1-2 times a week. I’d like to up the bike riding, but other than that, I just want to maintain my workout in the sunshine routine!
4. Not Allow Anxiety To Take Over
A few things are coming up in the near future that have caused my anxiety to spike. It’s pretty much the worst. Taking my power walks in the sun helps, but when night comes, everything looks and feels worse. I’m hoping the daily devotional, exercise, and intentional thinking will help to literally retrain my brain from overreacting to anxiety-provoking situations.
5. Create & Stick To A Blog Posting Schedule
Although the website has been up for a month now, I’ve just recently created a blog posting schedule. The way my schedule works right now, it seems Mondays and Thursdays will be perfect days for posting. I would like to post more than twice a week on the blog starting in June, but for the month of May, twice a week seems perfect. So, it’s time to plan & stick to the schedule!
That’s it for my goals for the month of May! Leave a comment down below of any goals you have planned for yourself & how you plan to accomplish them!
