How To Style Your Master Bed & Bath

May 3, 2018 No Comments

Happy May, everyone! I hope warmer weather has made its way to you by now, and you’re able to enjoy some sunshine! Today I’m sharing my decorating tips on how to style your master bedroom & bathroom. I’m definitely a nester, so I absolutely love changing the decor around in any given room for each season. Several decor pieces were given to us as gifts or hand-me-downs, but I’ve tried to find duplicates to most! If something isn’t linked, feel free to leave me a comment below asking where anything is from and I’d be happy to answer or find it for you!
The Shop The Look Widget still is not working on mobile devices, so I’ve linked everything in an alternative way at the bottom of this post, as well as at the end of each tip : Just click any word that’s in pink, and it will take you directly to the item’s site!

1. Utilize Wall Color & Space

Although Daniel & I are thinking of painting our bedroom walls a light gray this summer, for now, our walls are a tan shade. I love the tan on the walls because the color never gets too dark at night, and is easily brightened by the natural light during the day. It’s a win-win. There have been times where I’ve chosen a beautiful dark gray color for the walls, only to realize it darkened the room to the point of being depressing. Tan is also an extremely easy color to find matching decor for!

2. Focus On The Details Of Your Furniture

I brought this dresser and matching nightstands with me when I moved into this house from my previous apartment. The dark wood compliments the tan walls incredibly well. But, more than that, I chose to focus primarily on the dresser & nightstand handles more than the dark wood. The handles match the matted black frames on the walls, as well as the lamp, television, and DVD player.

3. Work With What You Have

Moving into a new place is exciting. There’s a want to buy all new furniture to fill the new space, but my advice is to first utilize what you already have. For instance, although I love these white lamps, I don’t think they match the room well. I’d love to find more southwestern style lamp stands to compliment the aesthetic. But, we chose to buy a dining table, a shelving unit, and desks instead, as those things were priority. The lamps will come in time. For now, these white beauties will stay. I’ve chosen to try to blend the white lamps in by adding white and brown frames. I love how the frames tie the lamps and nightstands together!

4. Invest In Storage

The only thing missing from our house is storage space. To solve this, Daniel & I found the cutest little bench that opens up to reveal enough space for blankets, extra pillows, etc. There are plenty of storage benches out there to choose from, and I love this gray color, as it matches the gray wall sign on the right side of the room. This storage bench not only gives the cats another place to sleep (ha!), but it allows us to keep all of our blankets, heating pads (real talk), and pillows somewhere convenient.

5. Don’t Be Afraid To Mix & Match

When I first decorated the master bedroom, I used only black frames. I finally realized making all of the decor match perfectly is not only unnecessary, but restricting as well. At the moment, I now have 3 black frames, 1 wooden frame, and wall art with a gray frame. Does it work? Sure! The key is to find pieces that tie the room together. The wood frame matches the dresser and nightstands, the black frames match the dresser handles and bed frame, and the gray wall art matches the bench!

6. Add A Pop Of Color

I’ve always loved the “clean look”: white walls, white furniture, white decor. But because the way our house is styled, the clean look isn’t optimal. No problem! Instead, I’ve chosen a white comforter, as it lightens up the room, and I’ve added colorful decor pillows. The pink & red through out the room adds to the southwestern vibe of the home (scroll up to see the pink & red cacti on the dresser), as well as brighten up the space with spring and summer tones!
