Happy Wednesday, friends! While my mom was in town for Mother’s Day, we enjoyed a fun girl’s shopping day where we spent about an hour at Ulta. It was an absolute blast picking out and trying on different makeup products with my mom! Our makeup shopping trip also made me realize that I’ve stuck to the same makeup products for the past three years. So, among that discovery, I want to share what I’m now calling my Capsule Makeup Collection! All but one of the items I’m listing have been in my makeup collection for the past 3 (or more) years, and they are all products I highly recommend!
Before moving further, let’s first define what a “capsule makeup collection” means: For me, specifically, this includes a small, set collection of products that I use on a regular basis. While I do own more makeup than is listed below (such as an eye shadow palette and different shades of CC+ cream), these are the main items of my makeup collection. These products are with me for every occasion, excursion, and everyday makeup routine.
I purchased this CC+ Cream back in 2015 when I had just learned about It Cosmetics. I’ve been a loyal fan ever since. Occasionally, I’ve switched to other foundations to try, but I always come back to It Cosmetics. The CC+ Cream isn’t a foundation, but it’s thick enough to act as one, and it includes SPF 50+! I never put powder on top of it (although you totally can). This CC+ Cream is also offered in an illumination finish. I’ve tried it a few times, and while I like it, it makes me look a bit too sweaty, so I prefer the regular finish. But I have seen several skin types the illumination looks amazing on! For reference, I have olive skin and typically wear the shade “medium tan”.
It wasn’t until recently that I was actually taught how to properly apply concealer. Nonetheless, this has been such a good concealer for the past three years, I’ve only tried one other in that time (and that was for my wedding). I dab a little under my eyes before putting on my CC+ Cream, and then use a beauty blender to blend it all in. For reference, I have olive skin and I use the shade “light”.
This has been my go-to bronzer for the past 3 years. I’ve tried other bronzers, but none worked well for me. While this bronzer can come on a bit dark, once I’ve applied it, I take a large powder brush to blend it in a bit more on my face. This helps keeps the bronzed cheek bones looking more natural.
If I remember correctly, I’ve been using the Stila liquid eyeliner on my upper lids since high school (8 years ago). I’ve never found a better alternative, as the brush allows for whatever thickness of a line you desire (the applicator tip is the perfect size to do a winged look!) I’ve only ever used the color black, so I can’t comment on any of the other colors, but if they’re anything like this one, I’m sure they’re worth a try!
This is another product I’ve used since high school. And again, I’ve never found a better alternative. The only other eyeliner pencil I liked was from Mac, but it ran out very quickly. I only use the pencil for my under eye. The color lasts a long time on my eye, and the pencil lasts forever! Just make sure to keep a pencil sharpener handy.
While I don’t use this product everyday, I have been repurchasing it since my freshman year of high school (12 years ago, what?!). I always purchase the purple shades and the browns (my go-to for everyday). I use my finger to dab the shadow on my lids. Since I don’t use much at one time, the palettes last me quite awhile.
I’ve only been using this product for about 6 months now, but I can honestly say it is the best I’ve ever tried. I go back and forth between this one and one I order from Mary Kay. I have long lashes naturally, so I am very picky about what mascara I use. Hello Lashes does not clump my eye lashes together like a lot of mascaras do. The product goes on very smoothly, and I usually apply multiple layers to get the total curled look. I’ve already repurchased this mascara twice, so I know it’s going to be with me for a long time.
I think I bought this just as it was first released, as this was the only color available at the time of purchase 3 years ago. But this past weekend at Ulta, I saw there are now several shades to choose from! Although it isn’t my absolute favorite eyebrow pencil I’ve ever used, it gets the job done! There’s a brush on one side and the pencil on the other. The universal color set up is meant to match multiple dark eyebrows. Until I find one I really love, this one will definitely get the job done!
Do you have a capsule makeup collection? Or do you enjoy trying new products frequently? I’d love to know in the comments below! There’s no right or wrong! Please let me know if there are any products you’d recommend!
