How To Organize Your Closet: Hang-Up Clothes

February 26, 2020 1 Comment

Hi, friends! Today I’m sharing different ways to organize a closet! Each way can be utilized no matter the size and space of your closet. There are no right or wrong ways to do this. I have separated this post into 2 Parts (See Below). I will discuss how to organize shoes, accessories, and dresser drawers at a later time!

PART 1: Organizing your hang-up clothes
PART 2: Organizing your folded clothes

Helpful Tips: Make sure that your hangers and clothes are all facing the same direction. Keep jackets/heavy outerwear in a separate place if possible.

PART 1: Organizing your hang-up clothes

If you want to organize your closet by COLOR:

1. Color Only
Color coordinate your clothes, no matter the style/type.

2. Color & Sleeve Length
Color coordinate your clothes AND organize the items by sleeve length, starting from shortest to longest.

3. Color & Type
Color coordinate your clothes AND separate the items by type of clothing, such as Tanks/Camis, Tees, Blouses, Sweaters, Cardigans, Dress Pants, etc.

If you do not want to organize your closet by color, you can organize the items by SLEEVE LENGTH and/or TYPE:

1. Sleeve Length
Organize the clothes by sleeve length, starting from shortest to longest.

2. Type
Organize the clothes by type of clothing starting from tank tops to thick sweaters.

3. Sleeve Length & Type
Tank Tops, Short Sleeve Tees, Short Sleeve Blouses, ¾ Length Tees, ¾ Length Blouses, Long Sleeve Tees, Long Sleeve Blouses, Cardigans, Pullovers, Thick Sweaters.

You can also include a section of your closet dedicated to OUTFITS you wear regularly:

1. Outfits
If you find yourself constantly wishing an outfit was already in place for you in your closet, an efficient way to incorporate this is to dedicate a section of your closet to a few outfits. You can hang the tops, the bottoms, and even accessories (scarves, belts) together to allow you to grab-and-go.

PART 2: Organizing your folded clothes

Clothes recommended to be folded:
Sweaters: Be careful not to hang certain types of sweaters, as it will elongate the fabric and distort the fit.
Jeans: Unless you have extra space in your closet, jeans are best stored away by being folded.
T-Shirts: This is a personal preference; I like to hang my t-shirts if I have extra room.
